Outside the Box with Angi Tennant

OTB Angi Tennant

What inspired you to start CrossFit Revival?

My husband, Scott, deserves credit. He knew I missed the social aspect of working out and encouraged me to give CrossFit Revival a try. Before that, I was taking power classes after COVID, but I felt like I’d plateaued.

I wasn’t really progressing or working toward anything specific.

My goal at first was honestly just to learn something new every day and not be the most uncoordinated person in the room. I’d always loved group fitness, especially spin classes, but the schedule wasn’t working anymore. CrossFit Revival gave me a fresh challenge, great coaching, and a community I didn’t realize I was missing.

How has CrossFit Revival changed your life or daily routine?

It’s hard to put into words because it has changed so much. I had lost a lot of strength, and I wanted that back. I also had all this energy that wasn’t going anywhere. I wasn’t happy with how I looked or how I felt and I was in a rut.

Now my mornings start with purpose. I have more energy, more confidence, and I’m healthier than I’ve been in years.

I actually took a break for a while, and coming back gave me a whole new appreciation for CrossFit Revival. The first time around, I was focused on getting stronger and checking off accomplishments. This time, I’ve slowed down.

I’ve really taken the coaching to heart, I’m trying to practice what they preach, and I’m focusing on doing things well instead of just doing more. Ironically, that’s made me a better athlete.

What’s your proudest accomplishment since joining CrossFit Revival?

In the gym, it’s probably my rope climb. When I first started, I never imagined I’d be able to do one. Looking back, that’s a pretty special milestone. I’m also proud of how much stronger I’ve become, and I hope walking on my hands eventually bumps rope climbs into second place.

What I really love is that CrossFit Revival lets me compete, but it’s mostly with myself. Every workout is a chance to be a little better than I was yesterday. Can I move better? Lift a little more? Learn a new skill? At 58 years old, I never expected to be chasing things like rope climbs and handstands, and that’s become part of the fun.

The funny thing is, if you had told me a few years ago that l’d never miss burpee day or actually look forward to a 900-meter run or even the miles that come with Murph, I would have laughed. Now I look forward to seeing what I’m capable of.

Professionally, CrossFit Revival has had an impact too.

A longtime friend and colleague told me she really liked “Workout Angi” because she noticed I brought the same focus, discipline, and energy from the gym back into running my business. I hadn’t really thought about it until she said it, but she was absolutely right. When I’m consistent in the gym, I’m a better business owner, a better leader, and a better version of myself.

What’s one thing about CrossFit Revival that makes it unique for you?

The people.

CrossFit can seem intimidating from the outside, but CrossFit Revival has never felt that way to me. Everyone cheers for everyone else, whether you’re lifting the heaviest weight in the room or just learning a movement for the first time. The coaches meet you where you are and genuinely want you to succeed.

I’ve experienced that firsthand, especially coming back after taking some time away.

There was never pressure to be where I used to be. It was just encouragement to keep moving forward. That kind of support keeps me coming back.

I came to CrossFit Revival because I wanted to get stronger. I stayed because I discovered what I was capable of. It has made me stronger physically, mentally, and in every part of my life.
